Provision of Technical Assistance for the implementation of the Cultural Heritage Development Programme (CHDP) in the South Eastern Anatolia (GAP) Region of Turkey with an area of 74,000 km2 and a population of 6.5 million. The € 15 million 3-year programme was funded by the European Commission with two main objectives:
1. To enable local stakeholders (businesses, Local Authorities, NGOs) to manage, in accordance with EC procedures, the funds available under the CHDP and to implement 31 individual projects.
2. To assist relevant stakeholders in the Region to design an Integrated Strategic Action Plan for the sustainable improvement of the region’s cultural heritage, including mechanisms for identifying and managing future key projects.

The individual projects implemented under the CHDP included the restoration of several historic buildings, development of a GIS based system for the preservation of cultural assets, a training programme for tourist guides in the Region and support for local handicrafts.
